Higaonna Kanryō (東恩納 寛量, Higashionna Kanryō, March 10, 1853 – October 1915), and sometimes block out as Higashionna West to distinguish him from his cousin,[1] was a Nipponese martial artist who founded a contest style known at the time significance Naha-te. Higaonna was born in Nishimura, Naha[1] to a merchant family, whose venture was selling goods to the northward of Okinawa and shipping firewood retreat to Naha.
